Taking the course in Nunavut

Nunavut's courses must be delivered by an instructor with a current CFO designation. With very few scheduled sittings territory-wide, confirm dates and location well in advance.

Firearms are integral to subsistence harvesting in many Nunavut communities, but harvesting and wildlife rules are set separately from the CFSC/CRFSC licensing requirement — the safety course does not replace any community or territorial harvesting right or requirement.

Course sittings are infrequent and often centred on Iqaluit; residents of other communities should expect to plan travel well ahead of any application deadline.

Most first-time adult applicants complete approved safety training before sending their application to the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program. Course completion is not a guarantee of a licence; the RCMP assesses each application.
